How We Deliver Bespoke Automation Projects

From Concept to Commissioning

ATM Automation designs and builds bespoke automation, assembly, inspection and manufacturing equipment for regulated and advanced manufacturing sectors. Our multidisciplinary engineering team delivers complete turnkey solutions from concept development through to commissioning and production support.

By combining mechanical design, electrical engineering, control systems, software, machine build and validation support in-house, we help customers turn complex production requirements into reliable, practical and maintainable automation systems.

1. Discovery & Process Understanding

We begin by understanding the customer’s product, process, production environment and commercial objectives. This includes reviewing current manual operations, production bottlenecks, quality requirements, operator interaction, available space and future production volumes.

2. Proof of Principle & Feasibility

Where required, we develop proof-of-principle trials to validate key process steps before a full system is designed. This helps reduce technical risk and gives customers confidence that the proposed automation approach is practical and achievable.

3. Concept Development

Our engineering team develops initial machine concepts, layouts and process sequences based on the agreed requirements. This stage helps define machine architecture, product flow, operator access, guarding, tooling approach, inspection requirements and control strategy.

4. Mechanical, Electrical & Software Design

We provide in-house mechanical design, electrical design, control system development and software engineering. This allows the complete machine design to be developed as an integrated system, with consideration given to safety, accessibility, maintenance, reliability and production performance.

5. Regulatory, Safety & Compliance

For regulated and demanding manufacturing environments, we design systems with quality, traceability, validation and compliance in mind. Projects can support documentation, risk assessment, machine safety, GAMP 5, FAT, SAT, IQ, OQ and customer-specific validation requirements.

6. Manufacturing, Build & Assembly

Machines are built and assembled at our UK facility, allowing close control over mechanical build, electrical installation, pneumatic systems, guarding, tooling, wiring, HMI integration and overall machine quality.

7. Testing, Inspection & Validation

Before delivery, systems are tested against agreed requirements to prove functionality, repeatability, process control and production readiness. This can include vision inspection, leak testing, functional testing, dimensional checks, force measurement, data capture and end-of-line verification.

8. Installation, Commissioning & Support

We support machine installation, commissioning, operator training and production handover. Ongoing support, modifications, upgrades and lifecycle assistance can also be provided to help customers maintain long-term machine performance.
